As Jack reached the bottom of the stairs, he heard the sound of voices. Luckily, he recognised one as being Em's voice, so it was bound to be somebody he knew. He walked down the dimly lit hallway - there were no windows, as it was in the centre of the house - and pushed open the door into the kitchen. Neither Em nor the other person was in the kitchen, so Jack opened the fridge, got a small carton of juice, stuck a cheap plastic straw in it and sucked hard. The door leading into the linen room was closed and Jack knew that the voices were coming from in there. He began to approach the door, casually throwing the carton into the bin as he passed, but before he had got five paces the door opened. Em walked out and so did Chris. Chris never turned up before supper time, and even then only when invited. Something had to be up. "Chris Hudell, what a pleasant surprise," called Jack, hoping to find out what the problem was. But he got no response. Chris just glared darkly at him. Jack's face fell. "What's up?"

And you shall, very soon, in fact. (Actually, you probably won't... the next part is Chris' flashback, and this part of the story isn't featured.) However, in two or three parts, the first of many dangers shall be presented to the crew.
