There was once a beautiful little pickled onion. She was called Pick. She would always sit on the dining room table. She would sit there all day long and not move an inch. She was a pickled onion, you see. But she was alive.
One day I came home from school to find her missing. Thinking she had merely gone out on a walk to the shops, I went to the cupboard and pulled out the biscuit tin. I pulled out a chocolate digestive and ate it. It tasted like a chocolate digestive. It was one, you see.
About thirty minutes later, I finished my seventeenth chocolate digestive and looked at the time. About thirty minutes had passed since I had got home and Pick had still not come home. I started to get worried.
About one hour after that, I looked at the time. About one hour had passed since I had last looked at the time. Pick had still not come home. I got a little bit more worried. Surely Pick would not leave me?
About two hours later, I checked the time again. About two hours had passed since I had last checked the time. I was worried. Pick could be out there, in the cold, harsh, bitter night, the cruel wind biting at her lovely Pickled flesh. The rain was pouring down outside, splashing the tarmac drive. Surely Pick could not be- she couldn't be...
I went outside to check. And there she was. There she lay. A pile of lost innocence. Dead. Gone were the days of playing in the fields. Long were the many happy hours we spent together laughing and joking about my family thought me to be mad. Gone. Long gone. those days died with my favourite pickled onion of them all.
The following day, I went out to the co-op and asked for a pickled onion. But they would not give me one. They insisted on giving me a jar. I presumed at first that it was so as to not separate families. But then I new. They had heard about Pick and thought I might need spares... Pick. Oh, poor Pick. Dear Pick. Leaving the jar, I fled from the shop, chocking back tears. Nothing could replace Pick, after all. She was the best. Pick.
Farewell, Pick.
